No one wants to lead the nation in child drowning deaths.  Regrettably, CDC data indicates Florida does. From 2017 to 2019 Florida ranked highest in the U.S. in drowning death rate among children ages 0 to 9. This is so distressing because it is so preventable. As the weather heats up and schools recess, please recognize the importance of and rigorously implement basic precautions including consistent adult supervision, the use of life jackets and, most importantly, swim and survival lessons, a child’s best protection against drowning.
