Kudos to the Broward County Board of County Commissioners. Their plan, announced Wednesday, to use $25 million of federal CARES Act funds to supplement rent for the months of April to August for Broward residents who can document an income reduction and inability to pay rent is on target, simple and sensible. The money will not need to be paid back and will go directly to landlords.  Truly a model for intelligently and effectively responding to the dire economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic – local government directly and quickly addressing the basic, immediate and critical needs of local residents.
