The Florida Legislature’s sole mandatory responsibility during its annual regular session that commenced Tuesday is creating the next fiscal year’s state budget. That said, multiple bills have already been filed in a noble attempt to improve the social services provided vulnerable Floridians. The key to their success, however, really lies in their crafting of the budget. New and amended laws will not significantly improve services if adequate funding is not provided to ensure that the interventions used and the practitioners that provide them are adequately trained, monitored, reimbursed and sufficient in number to provide high quality interventions to manageable caseloads.
